It’s on the Right Bank.
Don’t get me wrong. I like where I’m staying. It’s an apartment near the Sorbonne, close to the Latin Quarter. I like that the area has lots of bookshops, cafes and easy access to a lot of galleries and museums.. But it is rather gentrified.
Okay, this is probably sounding like someone wanting to do a bit of poverty tourism, but I do like things to be a bit grittier. It’s a bit like Subiaco. It use to be interesting once.
Anyway, I took a train to Belleville yesterday, then walked backed to the Seine via République and Le Marais. There’s a whole lot more stuff happening at street level in that part of town. Definitely appealing. Next time...
